Working on the computer, watching TV and using digital devices for extended periods of time can take a toll on your eyes, leading to eye strain. This can cause your eyes to feel dry and irritated, along with other symptoms, including headaches, neck and shoulder pain and blurred vision.
If you experience any of these symptoms, take a break from whatever activity you were doing. You can usually relieve eye fatigue with simple eye exercises. Read on as Aucello EyeCare Center, your leading provider of specialty contact lenses in the area, shares some tips.
Imagine there is a large, invisible figure eight lying on its side ten feet away from you. Then, trace that figure using your eyes without ever moving your head. Breathe and blink as you do so. You will be increasing the flexibility of your eye muscles.
Near and Far Focusing
Also known as the “hot dog,” this exercise involves changing focus between near and distant objects. Hold your thumb about six inches away from your nose. Focus on it for 10-15 seconds. After that, find an object about 10 to 20 feet away and focus on it. Alternate focus at least five times. Your eye care specialist explains that this activity will help relieve symptoms of eye strain.
People dealing with eye strain in an office setting can perform this quick, simple exercise. Every 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
